WVP Risk Assessment
Assess, Act, and Advance Safety Together.
Workplace violence is a serious issue that affects all business sectors and occupations – but workers in health and community services face the highest risks. WCB NS reports that the three highest time-loss claims involving violence for the period 2020-2023 were from Long-Term Care, Adult Residential Homes, and hospitals.
Nova Scotia’s Violence in the Workplace Regulations require employers to conduct a workplace violence risk assessment at least every five years for each of their workplaces, and to prepare a written report detailing the extent and nature of any risk identified. Where a significant risk is identified, a workplace violence prevention plan must then be established and implemented.
Program Overview
Scope and Engagement
AWARE-NS facilitates workplace violence risk assessments to help organizations identify, evaluate, and reduce risks that threaten employee safety. The process includes reviewing policies and incident records, analyzing physical and operational environments, and consulting with staff through interviews. Risks are prioritized based on likelihood and impact, and findings are summarized in a clear report with practical recommendations. From there, our advisors remain available to guide your organization through implementing those recommendations – turning assessment into meaningful, lasting action.
