Safe Handling & Mobility
Committed to Care. Driven by Safety.
Musculoskeletal injuries (MSIs) are the most common workplace injury reported by health and community services sector employees – and they are largely preventable. The Safe Handling and Mobility program takes a comprehensive, people-first approach to MSI prevention, aligning leadership engagement, safe work processes, and equipment use within a structured health and safety framework. By building a proactive safety culture from the ground up, SHM helps organizations protect their most valuable asset: their people.
Program Overview
Learning Objectives
Through the SHM program, organizations will work through a structured implementation process designed to drive lasting change. Beginning with Setting the Stage to secure senior leadership commitment, through to a Program Review, Equipment Inventory, and Action Plan development, each phase builds on the last. Organizations will establish a dedicated SHM Team with clearly defined roles – including SHM Champion, peer leaders, PACE Team, and trainers – and develop a tailored education and training rollout to ensure staff at every level are engaged and prepared.
